So you\u2019ve decided on your destination, applied for leave, got your itinerary planned out and bought your flight ticket. All ready for that trip of a lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But aren\u2019t you forgetting your passport? After all, each Malaysian passport is only valid for a maximum period of five years. And even then, if your passport has only a few months left, they might not even let you on the plane!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Online or Office?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So, you have an expired passport, what next?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will have the option of either renewing it online or physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For online <\/strong>renewal, you\u2019ll be using or using the MyOnline Passport website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, for in-person<\/strong> passport renewal, you\u2019ll have to visit a Passport Recipient and Issuance Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In either case, you\u2019ll still have to pick up your passport physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We highly recommend the first option\u2015renewing online (don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ll explain why).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Renewing Online through MyOnline Passport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Why Online?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now, dealing with the Malaysian government through online portals may not sound super fun or even reliable, but trust us\u2015renewing your passport online will save you a ton of headaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a few reasons for that, one of them being the large crowds and long waiting times<\/strong> at Immigration Offices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filling up your form and then settling all your payments online will help you avoid filling in paper forms in a packed and noisy office and skip most queues ahead of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only that, but Malaysian Immigration Offices tend to stop processing new passport applications by early noon<\/strong>. And you better hope you didn\u2019t drop in during lunchtime or a Friday afternoon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renewing online will allow you to submit an application AND pick up your passport as late as you want (most pick-up offices close by 5-7pm though).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unless you love waking up early at 6am to get in line with dozens of grumpy people, we highly recommend renewing online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Renew Your Passport Online<\/h3>\n\n\n

  1. Visit MyOnline Pasport website<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click through \u201cSetuju\/Agree\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Fill out and submit the form, take note of which Passport Recipient and Issuance Office you selected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Upload a passport-sized photo softcopy that follows regulations: white background, dark clothes, visible forehead and face without any hair, glasses, coloured contacts or accessories in the way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Follow instructions for payment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Print receipt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Wait for confirmation email or check application status at this page<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Bring your MyKad IC card, expired passport, and your payment receipt to the Passport Recipient and Issuance Office you selected earlier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Pick up your passport!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You may get a message saying that your fingerprints or cap jari <\/em>may have some issues. In that case, you can simply show up to the office with your MyKad, expired passport and receipt to resolve the issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
