PJ folk are a blessed lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite their distance from the so-called Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, those living in the vast suburb of suburbs called Petaling Jaya have a plethora of dining choices, especially when it comes to gourmet and fine dining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And nowhere is this more obvious than the affluent suburb called SS2. Here amidst the endless rows of terraced suburbia, countless restaurants do brisk business catering to diners looking for an upmarket meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when we come to the Butcher\u2019s Table and Kedai Coklat PJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Butcher\u2019s Table<\/h2>\n\n\n

Housed in a distinctly boxy shoplot building with huge, almost vertically tiled roofs, the Butcher\u2019s Table is the brainchild of veteran butcher and restaurateur Ho Kim Loon (aka Mr Ho).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a string of popular restaurants in Bangsar and even in East Malaysia, Mr. Ho returned with a bang in 2017 by opening The Butcher\u2019s Table\u2019s in the heart of an SS2 neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And judging by the four branches that have popped up since then in KL and even Ipoh, the meat-centric restaurant is still going strong in 2025!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, I had the chance to sit down at the Butcher\u2019s Table for a midday brunch with a few friends on a sweltering weekend afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crispy Roast Pork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For our appetizer, we ordered an ala carte plate of their signature siu yuk<\/em> or Crispy Roast Pork<\/strong> (RM24.32).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It sounds almost comical ordering an everyday dish found in hawker stalls, but the fine cuts of well-proportioned fat and pork, presented with a fine-dining panache, simply melted onto our palettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And to top things off, the skin was roasted into a perfect crisp, far from the usual burnt flavour and rubbery toughness found elsewhere. With just the slightest bite, the beautiful amber skin collapsed with the most satisfying crunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accompanying garlic chilli sauce also reminded me of Thai sweet chilli sauce, providing a sweet, tangy respite from the smoky fat, though I personally found it middling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

German Smoked Kassler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For my main course, I ordered the German Smoked Kassler<\/strong> (RM44.91), a dish featuring cured pork that\u2019s been smoked to perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keen-eyed readers may have noticed the prominent piece of pineapple crowning the dish. Fear not, despite its (ill-deserved) reputation for \u201cruining\u201d dishes, the sweet juices pair wonderfully with the smoky and salty profile of the pork cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backed with a generous helping of potato salad, this scrumptious slice of heaven would have been the highlight of the brunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

German Weisswurst<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Were it not for the German Weisswurst<\/strong> (RM13.92)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This \u201cwhite sausage\u201d seems simple enough, with a singed surface with an elegant herb and saucy squiggles as garnish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But once you chop through its tough skin and have a slice, you\u2019re immediately bombarded with an explosion of herbal flavour that elevates a well-cured sausage into perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as someone more used to sausages drenched in oil and sauces, the Weisswurst\u2019s more spartan preparation and presentation gave the savoury herbs a fantastic stage to shine on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iberico Shoulder Collar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As for my two fellow diners, they ordered an Iberico Shoulder Collar<\/strong> (RM63.75) and Butterfly Pork Steak <\/strong>(RM44.31), both with a side of mashed potatoes and \u201cvolcano\u201d gravy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Butterfly Pork Steak<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The former looked appetizing with its glistening, caramelized skin but my companion gave it a mediocre review. However, the Butterfly Pork Steak and its bacon cream sauce topping was warmly received by my other friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you still can\u2019t get enough of the Butcher\u2019s Table fine cuts, you can grab some of their packaged meats or even have them delivered \u2013 both raw and cooked \u2013 right to your house!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No afternoon brunch is complete without some sweet, sweet dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And where better to get some after your hearty meal than at the nearby Kedai Coklat PJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a skip and a hop away from Butcher\u2019s Table, this chic and comfy caf\u00e9 prides itself in all things cocoa \u2013 particularly cocoa sourced from local farms around Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief introduction to their wares and some wonderful recommendations, you can then pick and choose from a wide selection of chocolate desserts or even cocoa drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our Butcher\u2019s Table brunch, we took a seat during a quiet lunch lull at Kedai Coklat PJ and ordered an adorable Tiramisu in a Tart <\/strong>(RM16),two slick slices of Chocolate Terrine <\/strong>(RM18) and a cup of cocoa (RM12) from the weekly special menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiramisu in a Tart<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Tiramisu in a Tart <\/strong>is dominated by a rich and fluffy tiramisu sandwiched between a crunchy tart base and a top layer of fine cocoa powder garnished with some exquisite chocolate and nibs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carefully scooping up a slice into my eager tongue, I savoured the contrast between the airy white tiramisu with the firm tart below with pure joy. Meanwhile, the cocoa garnish grounds it all with just the right touch of bitterness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chocolate Terrine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, the Chocolate Terrine<\/strong> is a pure, unabashed dessert sin, with its thick, buttery texture unleashing a sweet storm with each bite. Of course, there\u2019s also some whipped cream to balance out this sinful delight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And according to my friend, the cup of cocoa was simply top-notch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting Here<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As both stores are in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, next-door parking will be scarce on weekends, particularly around lunch and dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t mind a 15-min walk, you can try parking at the 3 Damansara shopping mall<\/a> (500m away).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, you can take an MRT ride to the Taman Tun Dr Ismail station<\/a> before calling a DRT van or a Grab taxi for a 10-minute ride to both restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
