And with its fleet of 16 trains, there\u2019s a good chance you\u2019ll find a <strong>convenient time<\/strong> for your ETS trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it won\u2019t beat the speed and luxury of a flight (debatable these days), it will definitely<strong> beat the circus of check-ins and baggage claims<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And by going car-free, you <strong>don\u2019t have to worry about parking<\/strong> or the inevitable public holiday traffic jams!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, most of all, it\u2019s dirt-cheap! March and June \u2013 August. From here, you can visit multiple heritage sites including the <strong>former homes of Prime Ministers Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like the <a href=\"https:\/\/1000journey.my\/en\/what-to-see-hear-and-eat-in-vienna\/\">cultural powerhouse of Vienna<\/a>, Alor Setar also boasts many museums exploring Kedahan history such as the <strong>Kedah Royal Museum, Kedah State Art Gallery<\/strong> and the out-of-the-way <strong>Kedah State Museum<\/strong>. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of said attractions is the mighty <strong>Gunung Jera<\/strong><strong>i, <\/strong>Kedah\u2019s highest peak and a prominent feature of its coastline. But there\u2019s quite a few things to see and do around here \u2013 with less crowds too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to its history of Chinese immigration, there\u2019s quite a few temples to admire in Butterworth such as the Taoist <strong>Tow Boo Kong Temple<\/strong> and its impressive eaves and dragon motifs or the <strong>Nine Emperor Gods Temple<\/strong> with its twin pagodas. A nice, slow walk at <strong>Pantai Bersih<\/strong> beach is also a good option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However much you resist it though, few can ignore the siren song of <strong>Penang Island<\/strong> for long. autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rustic prewar districts, storied temples and mosques along with mouth-watering cuisine \u2013 it\u2019s no wonder Georgetown was jointly recognized with Melaka as one of <a href=\"https:\/\/1000journey.my\/en\/malaysia-unesco-world-heritage-sites-2025\/\">Malaysia\u2019s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if you can\u2019t stand sweltering heat of the Georgetown, the nearby Penang Hill provides a cool highland refuge full of forts, villas and hiking trails, similar to how the <a href=\"https:\/\/1000journey.my\/en\/mount-nokogiri-hiking\/\">grand quarries and cliffs of Mount Nokogiri<\/a> provide a relief from the madness of Tokyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, Penang Island has surprising number of natural retreats and camping sites, with one making it into our list of <a href=\"https:\/\/1000journey.my\/en\/highland-glamping-camping-in-malaysia\/\">Malaysian Highland Glamping &amp; Its wavy roof is clearly inspired by the dramatically flying eaves of the Minangkabau dwellings that are iconic to the state. Later, a centipede was repeatedly spotted around said rock, leading to a myth that this centipede was the son\u2019s mother.
