Long-suffering travellers to KLIA might soon have a welcome little reprieve come July.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has recently announced that the KLIA Aerotrain will finally reopen as soon as July 1.
First introduced in 1998, the KLIA Aerotrain once ferried a maximum of 200+ passengers per trip between the Main Terminal Building and Satellite Building.
However, the service was suspended due to a major breakdown in 2023. Originally slated for a July 2024 reopening, safety tests have delayed it until 2025.
For now, the current 15-minute shuttle bus service between terminals is planned to be retained for the foreseeable future.
Compared to the 2-minute Aerotrain ride though (and being able to skip the gauntlet of stairs and escalators), it’s almost a no-brainer which choice travellers will choose come July 1!
In other train-related news, the Kuala Lumpur – Bangkok train route looks set to be revived as soon as this year!
